Gargamel Heckled at his Book Signing

Surprisingly enough, someone doesn’t like Karl Rove. At a recent book signing in Beverly Hills, the former chief of staff heard less than complimentary comments from a group of outspoken anti-war protesters according to CNN.

Rove’s new book Courage and Consequences: My Life as a Conservative in the Fight drew about 100 people to the Saban Theater for an intimate discussion. Some of the attendees reportedly paid up to $40 to hear Rove talk about his experiences, but were left disappointed when shouting protesters halted the proceedings.

Rove has long been a controversial figure. Accusations were levied at Rove regarding the Bush administration’s handling of the Iraq war, claiming he and other administration officials lied about the country’s threat level.

One protester, Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans, approached the stage with handcuffs in an attempt to make a citizen’s arrest. Evans yelled at Rove, “Look what you did ... you lied to take us to war. You ruined a country. You totally ruined a country.”

While Evans was being restrained, another protester exclaimed “the only comfort I take is that you’re going to rot in hell.”

Rove had barbs to trade however, calling one member of the crowd a “lunatic” and explaining the outbursts were evidence of the “totalitarianism of the left.” The verbal assault continued, forcing Rove to skip the book-signing segment of his appearance.
